The future is all about taste

What you see daily shapes you. That part you know.

The part people forget: you also get to shape yourself — by your taste. What you let in, what you skip, who you keep around. That's the lever.

And I think the future is all about taste.

Today

Follow the source

  • Watch whatever Netflix puts on the home row
  • Follow the artist
  • Let the algorithm set the feed
The catalog is infinite. The choosing is outsourced.
Tomorrow

Follow the taste

  • Watch this person's movie taste
  • Follow J's Spotify taste. Alejandro's Spotify taste.
  • Curate the feed on purpose
When anything can be made, the person who picks is the product.

The shift — from following what's made to following who chooses

When music becomes AI-generated, I won't follow an artist. I'll follow J's Spotify taste, Alejandro's Spotify taste, and so on. The song is cheap now. The ear that picked it isn't.

Every day
What you see
Shapes
You
Which sets
Your taste
Which decides
What you see

The loop — the only place you get a say is the third box

So be diligent in the way you curate your feed. Who you follow, what you save, what you let autoplay.

The tastemakers will shape the future. Might as well be one of them — starting with your own.

Don't follow the artist. Follow the taste.
